One of the requirements for bringing your land patent forward is a 61 day posting of a public notice of your claim. This notice adequately gives the public its opportunity to review all the documents in your claim. This notice is for anyone who  believes they have an equal or superior claim to your land (and if you are not doing anything unlawful in claiming your rightful property, you should have nothing to be worried about). This posting was traditionally on the public notice bulletin board (corkboard) in the county building of the county location where the claim is being made. Today we make this available to you via a private webpage hosting your public notice and Land Patent Packet.  

This public declaration, made through posting in a local adjudicated newspaper publication, with a correlated webpage posting the public notice operates under the ancient and enduring principles of constructive notice and “estoppel by acquiescence”. Though not explicitly mandated by statutory law, this practice serves to fulfill the universal maxim of equity: “Let those who would object, speak—lest their silence be taken as agreement.”
